Our doctoral candidate, Sourav Sudhakaran was awarded with the "Best Poster Award" at the 6th Doctoral Congress in Engineering 2025 (DCE25).
The event took place at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in Porto, Portugal, from June 30th to July 1st, 2025.
The poster was titled "Super-Resolution of Wind Data at Perdigão Using Machine Learning"
Sourav shared us a brief summary about the work presented:
"This study introduced a convolutional neural network (CNN) capable of enhancing coarse-resolution wind data into high-resolution wind fields (Super-resolution) for wind energy applications. Using data from the Perdigão field campaign (a complex terrain site) as a case study, the model is trained on high-fidelity microscale Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation data. High resolution wind data is downsampled to create low resolution input data and the CNN learns to reconstruct flow details to recover the original patterns. The model performs reasonably well and shows clear improvements over conventional methods such as trilinear interpolation. These initial results demonstrate the model’s potential for instantaneously downscaling mesoscale weather model outputs into microscale wind fields."
Congratulations Sourav!
